More ramblings

Well this ami swap is almost done for me. I will be sending my ami out tomorrow sometime and I can't wait to see how much the lady getting it likes it. I also made her a square for her friendshipghan in the same colors because she wanted bright colors. Also this was a few weeks ago but I finally have my engagement ring and it was so sweet how he gave it to me. He put the ring at the bottom of a bag of Ghirardelli squares. And there was such a sweet note with it too. I was so excited when I got it. Posting a pic of the ring and I would post a pic of the ami but he's all packaged and ready for his trip :).

Life change.

Well I had to leave my home in Ohio and move to North Carolina. Not really that bad but not being able to say goodbye to most of my friends because of a time shortage on leaving sucks. I am happy to be in NC don't get me wrong. This is where we wanted to end up eventually anyway but we wanted a little more time to get things around and to be able to see ppl a little while longer. All in all though with all the bad stuff aside it is nice to be here. I have always loved the south because it stays warmer longer and even if it snows it really isn't much and not that long either. I mean it's about mid October and it is still hitting the lower 80's sometimes which to me is awesome. I have managed to crochet a little here and there since coming here but since I have been trying to get things in order as well not as much crocheting has been happening as I like. I am almost done with an ami swap we were doing on the friendshipghan cal I frequent and I am excited to get it out in the mail soon. Anyhoo not much else here just a small update.

Blankets

Ok these are pics of blankets I have been making that are still in the works. The first one is the pic of all three of my boy's blankets in the making because I had run out of yarn at that point lol. The second pic is a pic of the Gay/Bi pride blanket.

Let's see...

Well I have started my first giveaway on Cville and so far the turnout is fairly good. I have until the end of this month though to see who else enters so I'm expecting it to get even bigger. I just hope that whoever gets it really likes it because it is my first giveaway and it's from a pattern I made up myself :( I'm a little worried about that. On another note my dad is coming to visit this weekend. I'm excited and bummed at the same time. Excited because whenever my dad comes to visit I have a good time. Bummed because every time he comes to visit he criticizes me about all kinds of stuff I do *sigh*. On an even better note I still have not had a cigarette in the entire time I have been trying to quit so I am very proud of myself ^_^! I just hope I can keep this up forever this time unlike my other failed attempts.

Gay/Bi pride blanket

I am working on it again now because I think I found all the missing squares I'm joining the rows I have done atm and then after the joining I will do one row at a time of squares and join as I go. I think it might make it easier that way. I'm very excited for it to be done so I can give it to my friends I am making it for. I will post pics as I go along. For now though since I haven't joined much I will just have this post. I'm hoping to have it going fast and done soon.

A change

I decided about 5 days ago that I was going to quit smoking. I won't lie it's been rough but so far I have not had 1 smoke. It's not a long time I know but I am proud of myself for going as long as I have so far. I'm just thinking how much money we will save and thinking how much more stuff I will be able to do without losing my breath all the time. Plus it's better for my kids because now they won't see mommy smoking and try it themselves. I hope it sticks this time though because previous attempts didn't last. Aside from that I have been crocheting like mad and I think alot of that is due to not smoking anymore (I'm trying to find things to do to occupy my time). I still haven't done much more on my son's blankets but I'm thinking tonight I might try and do that again at least until I run out of yarn hehe. Well that's all the updating I have atm (not much I know) but I need to get my kids to bed.

Making blankets

I made a new square pattern that I looove and I am making all of my boys (3) blankets strictly from that pattern. The pattern will not be free or for sale because I have decided to make it an heirloom pattern that I will only pass along to family members. I am so excited about it though and I can't wait to get those three blankets together for them :). My oldest son is always stealing blankets from closets our room or anywhere he can grab one lol. So I figured he'd like one all his own. I will post pics as I go along right now I have 3/16 red ones 2/16 gold ones and 2/16 green ones. A very wonderful lady from crochetville sent me those colors in the mail because I was short on funds for doing anything really so I decided to make three beautiful blankets out of the colors she sent me:). I just need 4 more skeins of each color I am doing. Well I will post pics later.

look what was in my mail today!!!

I found this little piggy today in my mailbox. It was from a great lady from crochetville. I am so excited and honored to have gotten such a cute little piggy to cuddle.

Scrubby dishcloth/potholder

I say dishcloth/potholder because it's thick enough to be a potholder but I originally made it to be a dishcloth. I decided to start making dishcloths because i was tired of having to replace sponges so frequently.

Dishcloth Pattern:

Materials:
1 skein (roughly 2 ounces) of cotton yarn
Size H (5.00 mm) Hook

Begin by chaining 26

Row 1: Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and every Sc across Ch 1 and turn
Row 2: Dc in back loops only across Ch 1 and turn Dc in the other loops of the Sc that you did not Ch 1 and turn
Row 4: Slst Both Dc of the previous row together Ch 1 and turn
Rep Rows 1-4 until it is the size you want it to be.

Stitches Aplenty 12" Square

I was inspired to make this square because of the Stitch sampler afghan I am trying out atm. I thought maybe a square that has several different stitches and methods would be kinda fun.

Size I (5.50 mm) hook

Special Stitches:
Popcorn Stitch: Do 5 Dc in stitch indicated then remove hook and insert in beginning 5 Dc cluster and back into last then Yo and pull through both loops on the hook.

Cluster Stitch: *Yo insert hook into stitch indicated, Yo and pull up a loop, Yo and pull through two loops on hook* repeat from *to* twice more then Yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook. In stitch indicated.

V Stitch: (Dc, Ch.1, Dc) in stitch indicated.

Cross Stitch: Skip two stitches Dc in third stitch then Dc in previous stitch.

Just some pics of what I have done.

In the last little while I have been going crazy with crochet. Not a bad thing at all but I have started so many things that I have yet to finish (it's one of my crochet downfalls). Here are some pics of stuff I have done recently. None of these things are patterns I came up with on my own I am not trying to claim I did. I just want to show off some projects I have finished in the last little while. And actually the first pic is my stitch sampler afghan and I have a ways to go on it still but just proud of how that one is coming out.

Ok so finally!

I have not finished the Gay/Bi pride blanket yet due to the fact that my kids keep getting a hold of my squares and losing them sooo.......... I decided to take a picture of the graph I made for it to follow and there for you will get an idea of what you will end up with when you are done! If there is actually anyone out there who reads my blog that is :P hehe. The pattern for it is quite simple.

Gay/Bi pride blanket

Materials:

size H (5.00 mm) hook
RHSS yarn in colors:

Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Purple
Pink
Light purple
Light Blue (I have forgotten the actual names to all these but the best part is rainbow colors are very easy and the pink, lt. Purple and lt. Blue are fairly easy as long as the blue and purple are lighter than the blue and purple in the rainbow areas)
Black

For every square (just follow the graph above)
do three rounds of a traditional granny of what ever color is required and then one round of a traditional granny in black (so for the black squares just 4 rounds of a traditional granny in black).

Ok so...

here are some pics of my books and some things I have done from them........

New square

I just got my new crochet books and I have been trying all kinds of things from them. Here is a pic of a square I made earlier from 200 crochet blocks. I had to add a border to it to make it somewhat larger for what I need it for. I love my new books so much I even made a motif from my beyond the square crochet motifs book. I don't have a pic of it yet but I'm absolutely in love with all my crochet books. The collection of books stands at 7 so far but I'm hoping to get even more soon.

Pen Holder

My fiance has been wanting me to make him something crocheted for him to put on his desk at work. So I made him a pen holder because I figured it would be useful. So here is a pic of the finished product.

The pattern is fairly simple.

Materials:
Two contrasting colors in WW RHSS
One size H 5.00mm hook
One aluminum can
Hot glue gun and glue sticks

To start this project CAREFULLY cut the top and bottom of the can off. Then set this aside out of reach of children and pets until you have it covered.

With your main color
Ch. 36
Row 1: Sc in every ch. across Ch. 1 and turn
Row 2: Sc in every Sc across
finish off.
Row 3: With second color *Sc in next Sc, Sc in next Sc from the previous row (spike stitch)* repeat from *to* until the end Ch. 1 and turn
Row 4: Sc in every Sc across
finish off.
Row 5: With main color repeat row 3
Row 6: Sc in every Sc across
finish off.
Row 7: With second color repeat row 3
Row 8: Sc in every Sc across
finish off.
Row 9: With main color repeat row 3
Row 10: Sc in every Sc across
finish off.
Row 11: With second color repeat row 3
Row 12: Sc in every Sc across
finish off.
Row 13: With main color repeat row 3
Row 14: Sc in every Sc across
Rows 15 and 16: Dc in every Dc across
finish off.

Bottom part

With main color Ch.2
Rnd 1: 6 Sc in Second Ch. from hook (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in every Sc around (12 sc)
Rnd 3: *Sc in next Sc, 2 Sc in next Sc* repeat from *to* around (18 sc)
Rnd 4: *Sc in next two Sc, 2 Sc in next Sc* repeat from *to* around (24 sc)
Rnd 5: 2 Sc in every Sc around (48 sc)
Rnd 6: Sc in every Sc around (48 sc)
finish off.

Attach your bottom to the can with your hot glue gun and let it cool, attach your main piece to the can with your hot glue gun and let it cool, put hot glue around the inside of the top of the can and fold down the top. Viola you have a pen holder or a crochet hook holder maybe?

This was my first ever Pattern made by me so if it doesn't make sense let me know and I will try and correct the problem.

Pattern for a gay/bi pride blanket coming soon.

It's not really a full blanket yet because it's not done but once I get it done I will post a pic and the pattern for anyone who may want it. I am hoping to have it done by this coming monday but not sure how well that will work since I have three young boys running around all the time and this blanket is comprised of lots of little granny squares.

Well

I just got back from vaca in NC and I had a great time but I still can't wait to move there. As far as crochet I finished the pillow for my friend and all but one pillow for my kids and my niece and nephew. I have one square done and ready to send for the friendship squares thing I am a part of and I should be able to buy the stuff this weekend to send it. I'm also so excited because this weekend I might be able to go shopping for more crochet stuff!!! YAY!

Ok so....

Well I've had this blog for almost a year now and not one post yet. I created it to have an area to blog about crochet which is my hobby but now I have gotten into knitting as well. Still, crochet I enjoy more than anything else however so I probably won't bother changing the title on my page. I have been focusing on several projects atm. I have started making a pillow for my friend made of several small granny squares and I have been making pillows for my kids and my niece and nephew I have 4 out of 5 done and they are just simple wave pattern pillows. I also have been trying my hand at free form crochet and it's pretty interesting but not sure what to do on it next. I usually love to make ami toys but I haven't made one in a bit. I am hoping to start on them again as soon as I am finished with the projects I have going on atm. I also have gotten into a thing with some ppl where we make squares for each other and send them then make a blanket out of those squares. I think it will be interesting to see how a blanket looks with random squares on it. Well that is really all I feel like saying atm but maybe I'll remember I have this now that I have written in it finally.
